A major concern was the proviso that the Home would remain occupied throughout the works, and this tested the Contractor`s organisational skills and called for much patience and forbearance on the part of the Staff and residents.
A planning problem was encountered as the proposed extension footprint was considered to be too close to some listed trees on adjacent land. The resolution of this, involving a degree of tree surgery and tree planting (requested by the adjacent landowner), took approximately 6 months and work was finally started at the beginning of 2006.
After the usual trials and tribulations of working with a building of this age, and the extended period of time required working around elderly residents, the project was completed in December 2006.
The Clients expressed delight with the end result stating that "Oversteps is now a first-class facility, and is fully equipped to serve the population of Dornoch and the surrounding area far into the future".
